The event Disclaimer - Ultime avvertenze prima della rivoluzione recently stopped at Sapienza Università di Roma for a discussion dedicated to AI and Information.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way we communicate, access information, and interpret reality. The meeting at Sapienza focused precisely on this relationship: how AI is reshaping science communication, journalism, public discourse, and the responsibilities of those who inform society.
Organized by Corriere della Sera, the event brought together some of the most authoritative voices from Italy’s media and academic ecosystems to reflect on the opportunities and challenges posed by the growing influence of AI in the information landscape.
The AI that understands, the AI that supports
During the event, Roberto Navigli, Scientific Director of Babelscape and Professor of Natural Language Processing at Sapienza Università di Roma, delivered a talk titled:
“The AI that understands, the AI that supports: Minerva’s contribution to the future of information.”
In his presentation, Navigli introduced Babelscape Vera, a cutting-edge AI-powered fact-checking system designed to automatically retrieve, analyze, and verify claims and texts. The system showcases how the AI capabilities developed within Minerva, the Italian large language model ecosystem, can support reliable information processing and decision-making in both media organizations and public institutions.
In a world where digital information is growing exponentially, tools like Babelscape Vera can help professionals and institutions navigate complexity while maintaining high standards of accuracy and transparency.

A dialogue between media, academia, and technology
The session was moderated by Riccardo Luna and featured a panel of leading figures from journalism, academia, and research:
Luciano Fontana, Director of Corriere della Sera
Enrico Mentana, Director of TG La7
Antonella Polimeni, Rector of Sapienza Università di Roma
Gianfranco Nicoletti, Board Member at CINECA and Rector of Università della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli
Roberto Navigli, Professor of NLP at Sapienza
Walter Quattrociocchi, Professor of Computer Science at Sapienza and Director of Center for Data Science and Complexity for Society
Together, they explored how AI is influencing the production, verification, and dissemination of information, and how institutions can work together to ensure these technologies strengthen public trust.

The importance of public–private collaboration in AI
Alongside the event, Roberto Navigli also recently published an article in Corriere della Sera, reflecting on the importance of public-private collaboration in accelerating the development of large language models (LLMs).

In the article, he highlights the current challenges facing AI development in Europe and stresses the importance of making high-quality data available in trusted environments to support the next generation of AI systems.
As Navigli notes, AI is not merely a technology: it is a multiplier of opportunities across sectors and society.
